Nixon & Jarvis / Jarvis and Foster (Lorne House)

This post was updated on .
Don't know much about the bookbinding/printers or Nixon, Jarvis or Foster what came first etc..

I have found a notice which stating - Walter Amos Foster (trading as Jarvis & Foster) of 118 Pennant Crescent Bangor was "Foster"

Looking at the old adverts, the oldest (in appearance) appears to be Jarvis & Co at Lorne House. The 'newest' Jarvis & Foster (rear of) 204 High Street (R.T. Jones proprietor).

The other Jarvis and Foster adverts site the location as Lorne House, the only Nixon & Jarvis advert says Bank Place - but I suspect that is the same place.

Given that I guess the business went... Jarvis, Nixon & Jarvis, Jarvis & Foster.

Their first appearances in the North Wales Chronicle appear to be:
1869 Messrs Nixon and Jarvis
1889 Messrs Jarvis and Foster

John Cowells 1994 postcard book puts them at 265-267 High Street, which must be the High Street number for Lorne House. They apparently also had branches in Upper Bangor and at Llangefni p21 has an excellent picture of Nixon and Jarvis outside the Lorne House.

Interesting, from 1888

... and his (William Jarvis') 1887 death (W A Foster from Bangor in attendance)

1888 W A Foster still around and having a child at Lorne House

... more evidence they were two businesses (1890)

258 High Street (Lorne House) Jarvis & Co (Presumably at some point Jarvis & Foster)
267 High Street (Bank Place) Nixon & Jarvis (Previously Messrs Catherall & Nixon)

1914
