Bangor City F.C.

There are several sites which have a really good history of the club which I won't repeat on here, but just a bit on the grounds....

Bangor City Football Club was based at the Maes-y-Dref ground and formed on the 18th December 1876. During this time the only competition for the new club were friendlies until the formation of the new Welsh Cup in 1877. Bangor's first competitive game would be against Caernarvon Athletic.

The Club moved to Farrar Road Cricket Ground in 1919, sharing the occupancy of the site having been evicted from Maes Y Dref for allotments.

Maes Y Dref was always bemoaned anyway due to the size and condition of the ground and spats with neighbours regarding stray balls and damage.

The Cricketers had been granted tenancy of the ('pre-farrar road') ground in 1879 by Lord Penrhyn. The joint tenancy fell apart due to season clashes and condition of the pitch resulting in the cricketers playing elsewhere 1927-1928. In August 1928 Lord Penrhyn again came to the rescue offering up land at Llandegai as an alternative venue freeing the sports from the uncomfortable partnership.

The spectators stand seated 250, and was officially opened in 1904.

An 1899 complaint about the ground..
