The Wellfield Estate & its environs

Bodhyfryd ( yellow in the map).  The 1901 Census shows that it was the home of John Pritchard, Auctioneer and Valuer. It was also once the home of a Dr J H Davies (Medical Doctor). Demolished in 1939 to make way for the Woolworths store on the High Street.

The Wellfield Estate itself ran from the High Street to M&S, and was sold in 1951 to the City Council and then to developers for the Wellfield Shopping Centre in 1962

I vaguely remember the Wellfield Shopping Centre having office space called 'Wellfield House' (all be it very much part of the 1960s development) to which I presume this 1968 letter by Peckover Burrill and Owen refers.

Wellfield House

This shows the corner of the 'teal building' which housed the office of William Dew, Auctioneer and Valuer, who lived at Wellfield House.  It was also the office of Henry Barber, Solicitor (Slater's Directory, 1895).
