GARFIELD ------------------------

Properties on Garfield Terrace housed St Winifreds School which was est, in May 1887. When pupil numbers reached 20 borders and 3 day-girls the school relocated to Bron Castell on the High Street. The early days of growth at the terrace saw the School take on neighbouring properties, occupying 3 before the move. They were however very much dwellings and never intended as School premises which made the move even more compelling.

4 Garfield Terrace was the home of Hugh Iorys Hughes (born 16 April 1902 - died 1977) he was a civil engineer and unsung hero of World War II who advised on the design of the Mulberry harbours used in Operation Overlord. His memory is honoured with a plaque on the building.
