Dramatic entrance to Penrhyn Hall 1899

The North Wales Chronicle, 24 June 1899, reported the story of a mischievous Bangor lad who fell dramatically through the glass roof of the Penrhyn Hall.

This was reported in many other newspapers, including the Illustrated Police News which carried a full page illustration.

By the end of July 1899, there were reports that all the injured were recovering well.

Re: Dramatic entrance to Penrhyn Hall 1899

There is every possibility that this Thomas John Roberts is the one in Cofeb y Dewrion shown as husband of Laura Roberts, 18 Park Street, Bangor. ( I can't provide the link at the moment as the page is shown Not Found)

That Thomas John Roberts has extant service papers. He had enlisted in the RWF on 1 6 1916 and described himself as a Solicitors Clerk. His mothers name was Elizabeth.

In the 1911 Census at 30 Glanrafon is a Thomas John Roberts, Law Clerk and mother Elizabeth (He is shown as married but his family are not with him)

Other details in the service papers tie in with the Cofeb y Dewrion data (eg age, leave in 1918 and being in hospital etc)
