Re: Albert Hotel

The Albert Hotel was at 208 High Street, next to the King's Arms (O'Sheas) .  In the 1830s it was the Hope and Anchor Inn, but by 1849 it had become the Albert Hotel, with Edward Thomas as licensee.  He died in the Spring of 1854 and his wife Alice soon remarried - in September 1855- to Hugh Davies.  He is listed as licensee in 1856 which suggests that the letter-head can be dated to 1854/6.

In 1887, the hotel was purchased by Donald Cameron who converted it into a draper's shop.  The portico was removed in 1888.
