Antique / Vintage Striped Boating Jacket / Blazer
for Women
Probably dating from the 1920s or 1930s
Student jacket - features badge/coat of arms of UCNW (University College of North Wales) - i.e. Bangor University, north Wales
Made by Vallance Bros, Tailors and Outfitters, Bangor
(there is a label to this effect)
Striped fabric - the main colour being dark green with stripes in yellow
It has proved difficult to reproduce the colours accurately in the photos.
The yellow stripes are an even shade throughout (some of the photos make the stripes look faded in parts but this is not the case in reality)
Fabric not stated. It feels like wool or a wool mix . In the absence of a label I have selected 'wool blend' from ebay's drop down list but it could well be pure wool
Unlined - although the sleeves are lined in a cream fabric
It would have had 3 buttons originally (one is missing - should be easy enough to replace)
3 pockets, one of which is a beast pocket
Has the original owner's name hand-written in ink on the inside (has not picked up very well in the photos)
The original owner was a Glenys E. Davies
Quite collectible due to historical associations with UCNW
SIZE - I have *estimated* it to be a MEDIUM but much depends on how much you want to wear underneath. PLEASE CHECK the precise measurements given below against something you already own in order to ensure a good fit
All measurements taken with the jacket laid flat so please double where appropriate
BUST- armpit to armpit - approx. 19" or approx. 48.5 cm
ACROSS THE BACK OF THE SHOULDERS - approx. 15 1/2" or approx. 39.5 cm
LENGTH - approx. 24 3/4" or approx. 63 cm
